Mr Phelan’s Weekly Round Up
This week at Duncombe
The joy of reading has been ever present this week with our focus on World Book Day spreading across the entire week. With a visit from Mo O’Hara our Patron of Reading on Monday morning, all pupils and staff were flung with all the force of Warp factor 9, into the world of books, reading and shared experiences that only books can bring! Mo’s genuine love and effervescent approach to reading was contagious with the children responding to the interactive nature of the assembly. Miss Morley’s carefully crafted week of events and
experience ensured the energy of Monday morning was carried through the remainder of the week, not least as seen in workshops, book character trails and Thursday’s World Book day costume celebration!
Pupils looked resplendent in numerous costumes, fully entering into the spirit of the day which was matched by some amazing staff efforts. In addition, our Nursery and Reception pupils were thrilled to attend the Gordon Craig Theatre to see Tales from Acorn Wood. A wonderfully interactive production which ensure that pupils and adults alike were fully engaged and enthralled from start to finish! Do look out for the pictures and report for more information about the week.
A big thank you to all involved and for fully supporting this critical learning initiative as William Styron stated ‘A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted at the end. You live several lives while reading.’ How wonderful!
Year 4 treated their families to a wonderful afternoon of High Tea on Monday as they hosted a wonderful event looking at the up coming trip to York.
It really was a lovely treat which showcased the children’s culinary skills ably guided by our wonderful catering team from Thomas Franks. The comments from families was just thrilling demonstrating how much the event had been enjoyed and equally how impressed the had been with the fayre on offer!
Well done to the Year 4 pupils and team plus our catering superstars!
Voice of the Parent survey 2023
A brilliant backdrop as we enjoyed our Year 1-3 Parents’ evening on Tuesday which was a very jolly affair. It was lovely to see so many of you to look at the wonderful progress and next steps for our children. Next week is Year 4’s turn followed by Nursery and Reception and then Year 5 in respective weeks before the Easter break.
Next week is another full week of events and learning experiences including, Year 3’s Roman History experience, an Escape Room challenge for Year 2, matches and tournaments for our U10s and 9s plus Piano and Violin breakfast concerts to boot! Plenty to look forward to indeed.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Mr Phelan
As I shared last week our Voice of the Parent Survey has been exceptional. I wanted to share some of the myriad of positive comments we have received with you. In truth there are far too many to share, but I have selected a handful from across the phases of the school which give a great flavour:
“The quality teaching and support is excellent. You feel part of a highly engaged, nurturing and supportive community.” - Reception parent
“Duncombe is an incredible school. They not only support the child but the whole family. Everyone is so friendly, supportive and is eager to perform at their best. I have no doubt that we made the right decision for our child.” - Year 3 parent
“A “Duncombe” education is a valuable asset to any childhood, and I am full of gratitude that my child attends this school.” - Year 6 parent
