The Henry Moore Studios and Gardens
Year 6 very much enjoyed their recent visit to The Henry Moore Studios and Gardens in Perry Green, on the site of his family home and estate, which linked to the work we carried out in the Autumn Term.
This trip enriched the children’s learning experience and invoked a deeper understanding of Henry Moore and his work through immersion in the incredible sculptures in their original setting. Our guide was a font of knowledge and talked us through many of the monumental bronze sculptures, which were inspired by human forms and the natural landscape surrounding the studios where Moore developed his ideas. It was wonderful to walk in and around the sculptures and to visit the studios, which were preserved as Moore left them. We learnt about his creative processes of drawing, etching, carving and model-making.
We also had time for independent study where we sketched and explored the awe-inspiring sculptures in our own time. Upon returning to school we thought about the sculptures which particularly appealed to us and created our own maquettes using plasticine.
It was a wonderful start to the summer term and to have had the opportunity to view the largest collection of Henry Moore’s work in the world was fabulous.
