What a truly inspiring week it has been at Duncombe! The joy of books and reading has been at the heart of everything, and it has been a pleasure to see the enthusiasm and love for literature shining through in so many ways.

5SA set the tone for the week with a fantastic assembly all about reading. They explored personal choices, the power of imagination, and how books can transport us through time and space with limitless possibilities. Their confident presentation, combined with humour, a song, and a clear passion for reading, was a joy to watch.

Bringing the week to a close, 2A led this morning’s assembly, focusing on the importance of being unique. Inspired by the charming book Wonderful You, they celebrated what makes each of us special. With growing confidence, creativity, and a wonderful use of music and humour, 2A wowed all present. Huge congratulations to all who performed this week – what a credit you are to Duncombe!

Throughout the week, book-related learning activities have engaged and inspired pupils across the school. A much-loved highlight was the shared reading experience between Upper School pupils and their Reception and Year 1 buddies, fostering a love for stories and connection across year groups. Of course, the pinnacle of the celebrations was Thursday’s dress-up day, where pupils (and staff!) looked resplendent in their book-themed costumes. The creativity on display was simply fantastic!

Amidst all the literary excitement, our swimming team proudly represented Duncombe at the IAPS regional finals, showcasing skill and determination across various strokes and two squad members, William S and Selena S, becoming Regional Champions for their respective strokes! Meanwhile, our Under-11 Rugby team took part in the Beechwood School tournament today. We shall eagerly await how they got on.

Looking ahead, next week is set to be just as busy and exciting. Year 4 will be heading to York mid-week for what promises to be a fantastic residential trip. Nursery and Reception parents’ evening takes place on Wednesday 12th March, followed by the Year 6 Enrichment Information Evening on Thursday 13th March. We also have 1MH’s assembly on Friday, which we are all eagerly anticipating.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.
